Today in the office, a patient and I were talking about what she had accomplished this year and what she wanted to focus on in the year to come. She was referred to me for metabolic syndrome and pre-diabetes. Of course we changed her diet, put her on the Lourie Process Weight Loss & Cleanse Nutritional Smoothie, added Functional Medicine nutritional supplements to her daily health routine. However, as I so often see, when we scratched the surface of her life, she came to the conclusion that she needed to make some dramatic changes, in order to truly heal her body.
Another patient recently came to me for “GERD”, burping and upset stomach after eating. Her primary care physician had put 17 serious health items on her diagnostic list. We’ve been working together since August and have crossed off 2 items, so far. But in the process of healing her GERD, which is one of the two items we “deleted”, we are addressing the underlying causes of her eating disorder.
Now, back to the “mindful approach” to creating intentions for the New Year. A mindful approach takes into consideration not just where you want to go, so to speak, but also the underlying landscape that shapes your motivation. It requires some time and space to be quiet and hear what your psyche, or inner self, is telling you. And it requires openness to hearing the results of you asking the question. Sometimes what appears is a surprise to your conscious or intellectual mind.
For me, this was a wonderful year professionally. My new website has been live since the Fall and has been positively received by both patients and professionals. My line of supplements to support the work I do with fertility, Reproductive Fertility Nutritionals continues to grow and provide women dealing with fertility and pregnancy the quality and safety required in vitamin supplementation.
I attended several classes in integrative oncology and am continuing to develop that expertise in my practice, as well as continuing to study with my homeopathic mentor, Louis Klein, in his advanced seminars. I’ve also started studying with Dr. Marty Hinz of the NeuroResearch Institute and am applying his protocols using amino acids to work with people with depression, anxiety, OCD, insomnia and Parkinson’s disease.
These past few weeks, my patients and I have been sitting in quiet contemplation, or meditation, to allow them to get in touch with their inner or higher self, to encourage a mindful approach to setting intentions for the New Year. My patient with the Metabolic Syndrome realized she needed to leave her marriage and what appeared for my patient with the GERD was she needed to change jobs and sell her house!
My mindful meditation on thoughts of the New Year has shown me how much I truly love my work, helping people get in touch with their higher selves. Once they have figured out what is blocking them from achieving their health and happy life goals, we can then focus on the job of removing the debris from the path, so they can achieve those goals.
I encourage you to do the same and wish everyone a year of achieving their health and personal goals.
