MORNING ROUTINE - “The morning sets the tone for the day!”
This is particularly true when it comes to preparing your body for optimum health. A few simple things that take only a few minutes can make a big difference in your energy throughout the day.
I always recommend starting the day with at least 8 ounces of warm water; you can add some fresh squeezed lemon juice into it if you like.
Many of your body functions depend upon fluid for production, so keeping yourself hydrated is one of the simplest and most important things you can do to optimize your health.
Find 5 minutes (more if you can) to sit quietly and calm your mind. Breathe in and out slowly and thinkcalming and positive thoughts. Not about how much you have to do today, or calls you have to make, but how you want to feel centered and positive about who you are and what you are aiming to accomplish.
NUTRITION - “Eating the correct breakfast establishes your blood sugar environment for the day!”
When you wake your blood sugar levels need to be replenished after sleeping, so it’s important to eat within 1 hour of arising.
Drinking coffee first thing in the morning causes fat to be released from storage, which causes an increase in sugar into the blood stream. This signals the pancreas to release insulin to metabolize the excess sugar in your blood accounting for the initial feeling of more energy and then the energy “crash” that ultimately occurs anywhere from 1 to 2 hours after that first cup of coffee.
This blood sugar fluctuation is particularly unhealthy for your fertility, especially for those who suffer from PCOS. Keeping your blood sugar stable is an important aspect of optimal fertility health.
So, what should you eat and drink when you wake up in the morning?
We recommend either our Lourie Process Weight Loss & Cleanse or our RFN Fertility Cleanse Powder to make into a healthy shake. Two scoops provide you with 26 grams of pea-isolate protein as well as from 50% to 1000% of the RDA of essential vitamins. We recommend using coconut water or almond milk for additional nutritional benefit, along with the addition of up to one cup of organic blueberries for their superb anti-oxidant properties. This is quick to make and you can drink it while on your way to work! It will keep you satisfied for up to 3 hours and tastes delicious. To order CLICK HERE and use code 'summer' for a 20% discount!
EXERCISE - “Movement is one of the keys to a healthy life”
Chinese Medicine believes your Qi, or central energy, is kept healthy with movement. High intensity exercise is not necessarily the best thing to do if you are trying to optimize your health. So you might want to consider finding a different form of movement that will feel good for you. Gentle exercise at least 5 days per week, still has health benefits and there are plenty of options for you to choose from. Pilates, yoga, brisk walking, swimming. I have several different exercise tapes that I choose from which provide me the freedom to exercise in the comfort of my home whenever I choose.
SLEEP, RELAXATION AND PLEASURE - “Getting enough sleep is one of the keys to a healthy life!”
I realize we all have super busy lives, but your body also needs time to sleep and relax! Sleep and relaxation are critical for energy renewal, both on a physical as well as spiritual level. Your body needs time to lower it’s stress response and your psyche needs time to renew and refresh.
It’s important to avoid activities that stimulate your nervous system, for at least 1 hour before bedtime; that means no violent TV, computer, paying bills.
Instead, get into bed and read a pleasurable book or listen to music that relaxes you. You could also do some light stretching or yoga before you get into bed.
Eight hours of sleep are ideal but for some people, that’s not possible or necessary.
It’s also important to do something that gives you pleasure that has nothing to do with “being responsible” or taking care of daily chores we all need to attend to.
For me, it’s gardening. Even 5 minutes walking through the garden, pulling a few weeds or trimming a few branches, makes a difference in my perspective of the day. I put more time into it over the weekend, but those 5 to 10 minutes a day help make me feel positive and the garden looking good.
If gardening is not your thing, I encourage you to find some activity, no matter how small, that brings you pleasure and is fun. These types of activities lower your stress hormones and keep your psyche centered and happy, which benefits your optimal health!
